Revised Opinion on Ambitions, plus WA
POSTED ON 06/13/10
So a mod was the culprit slowing down the peeing and eating! Who would have thought? It\'s always a balancing act, using just the right mods to get the game to work the way I want it to. I do think That EA might be paying attention, because a lot of things work better than they used to (either that, or it\'s my new, super fast computer).\r\n\r\nI succumbed and bought World Adventures. I\'d read that it borked so many people\'s games, but I figured with everything updated for Ambitions, it shouldn\'t cause so many problems. I have to admit that I love it! The tomb-robbing is fun, but I love traveling, exploring, and making new sim friends even more. So far, I\'ve only been to France.\r\n\r\nI\'m getting just a wee bit bored with my sims\' professions: architect and PI. It might be better to switch families more often and try different things. This is a shift since the base game, in which it wasn\'t advisable to switch families very often. Luckily, with Twallan\'s master computer, I can keep the game from doing strange things to my main family while I\'m elsewhere.
Thoughts on Ambitions

I was worried that Ambitions would be another tedious OFB, but I was pleasantly surprised! I am enjoying the inventor and architect careers. I haven\'t tried the others out yet, but it\'s wonderful to be able to spiff up the non-active households with some better interior design. Visiting the scrapyard is a lot of fun, too.\r\n\r\nI also love the swampy terrain of Twinbrook - the gloomy trees with their hanging moss and vines, the thick marsh grass, and the creepy fog. The landscape is perfect for a run-down house I made for the base game.\r\n\r\nI am so glad EA introduced the self-employment professions. before Ambitions, if I left the houses of my painters and writers, I\'d come back to find them employed elsewhere. Twallan included that feature in his story progression mod, and I I wonder if EA took notice?\r\n\r\nThere are a few odd things about the new EP that are bugging me. Taking care of basic needs, such as cooking and hygiene, seem to take much longer, even with expensive furniture. My sims can\'t seem to get out of the house before noon - it\'s lucky that they\'re both self-employed! I\'m waiting to get the dirt defiant and steel bladder rewards, but with fun never rising above 50%, I\'ll be waiting a long time. I think painting, fishing, chess, gardening and cooking should be more fun. Shouldn\'t gardening be the best activity ever for a Green Thumb sim?!\r\n\r\nThe other problem is the meteors. At first I thought they were really cool. I liked it that there was a new way to die, since my old game contained only white, died-of-old-age ghosts. I only had one sim expire in the pool, ever. But meteors every day?! They seem to target my sims, too. At first, I thought, oh, maybe I placed this house on a meteor spawner, but no. Everywhere my two active sims go around town, a meteor tries to fall on them. Perhaps they\'re cursed. Maybe a sim will invent armored bicycles.
