Preheat the oven to 325 degrees and b lend the mixture (without water) by hand until it isthoroughly combined. If mixture is too dry, add water. Bake approximately 20 to30 minutes. (Vegetarian dog food may be kept in the refrigerator for five daysor frozen up to three months.)

Generic Dog Food Recipe
POSTED ON 07/11/12

Cook whole grain rice, gluten-freeoats, barley, or quinoa for the basis of the dog's meals without salt or oil. Whileyour pasta, rice and/or oatmeal are cooking, cook the vegetables.

Boil or bake fresh produce (eggplant, celery, potatoes, zucchini, broccoli, banana) untilit can be pierced easily with a knife, but not so long that it falls apart. Itis good for a dog's teeth to chew, so serving solely soft food can cause abuildup of tartar on their teeth which can lead to gum and tooth problems.Drain and set aside to cool.

Mix the two together and season withfruit like bananas, vegetables and beans or lentils, which can be blended inorder for the dog to digest them easier, into a flavorful mush your dog willlove.

Serveyour homemade vegetarian food mixed into your dog's previous food. This willhelp the dog transition to the new diet slowly so it is easy on digestion andcan minimize the chance of diarrhea, constipation or soft stool. (Mix ratio75-25, 50-50, and 25-75 for two days each.) Feed dogs twice a day, once in themorning and once in the evening.

Whole wheat pastas and breads can beadded to their food or given as snacks. Break up 2-3 pieces of bread and add itto the mixture.

To supplement homemade dog food, take aVitamin E capsule and poke a hole in one end.Drizzle the oil on to food and serve. Chop two each (or one if under 25 pounds)500mg L-carnitine and 250mg Taurine tablets into small pieces and mix in tofood. (half for 10 pounds, quarter for 5 pounds?)

Foods NOT to feed a dog
POSTED ON 07/11/12

Dogs are omnivores and can survive and thrive on a well-craftedvegetarian diet. Studies show consumingvegetables at least 3 times per week can reduce the risk of cancer by 70percent. Organic food is best, but one can lower pesticideexposure by almost 80 percent by avoiding the top twelve most contaminatedfruits and vegetables (on the dirty dozen list) and eating the leastcontaminated (clean 15) instead. DOGtorJ.com has lots of information on why toavoid the top allergens (wheat, diary, soy, and corn). Eating a vegan diet can relieveallergies, eliminate diabetes, relieve joint pain and inflammation, and eveneliminate dog odor and bad breath.

these are the foods to AVOID: (can affect digestive, nervous, andurinary systems)

caffeine (chocolate, but coffee, tea, and soda)

grapes and raisins

avocados

walnuts and macadamia nuts, esp. the shells (other nuts safe, thoughpossible choking hazard)

peach and plum pits and apple, cherry and plum seeds (fruit issafe - limit amount)

onions, to include onion powder

garlic, to include garlic powder

chives

raw potatoes, their skins, and any green parts (cooked is fine)

tomatoes, esp. green parts

rhubarb

corn

mushrooms (some are poisonous to dogs and it's hard todifferentiate, so it's best to avoid all)

broccoli in large amounts

too much canned pumpkin (diarrhea - a little is good)

too much high-acid fruits (limit serving size of oranges and grapefruit)
