NC Heart, will it repeat Peddie's pitching triple crown from last year?
POSTED ON 08/02/24
The ‘pitcher’s triple crown’ has left, but another triple crown candidate has emerged.

NC’s left-hander Kyle Hart (32) currently has 10 wins (2 losses) and is tied for first place with Kwak Bin (10 wins, 7 losses, Doosan) and Emmanuel de Jeisus (10 wins, 7 losses, Kiwoom) in the most wins category. He is in sole possession of first place in the ERA (2.34) and strikeouts (143).

Last year, NC produced the first foreign pitcher to win the triple crown in the history of the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization) league. It was Eric Peddie (20 wins, 6 losses, ERA 2.00, strikeouts 209). He dominated the Korean stage by winning the regular season MVP (Most Valuable Player) and Golden Glove, and signed a two-year, $15 million (approximately 20.6 billion won) contract with the Chicago White Sox of the MLB (American Professional Baseball) ahead of this season. Peddie, who is currently playing for the White Sox with 7 wins and 4 losses (average 3.11) this year, was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals at the end of last month.

Hart is less powerful than Peddie in the 2023 season, but he is cruising toward the ‘Triple Crown’. In particular, he started in 5 games in July and recorded a special performance of 3 wins, 0 losses, and an ERA of 0.55 (2 earned runs in 33 innings). All 5 games were quality starts (starting pitchers who block 6 or more innings with 3 or fewer earned runs).

Hart was selected by the Boston Red Sox with the 568th overall pick in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft. His only major league experience is 4 games (1 loss) in 2020, 파워볼실시간 a shortened season due to COVID-19. He played in a total of 143 games in the minor leagues and recorded 42 wins (47 losses, ERA of 3.72).

Hart, who signed with NC late last year, is said to have honed his sweeper (a slider that swings sideways) during spring camp. His pace is similar to that of Peddie, who dominated the domestic stage with a new powerful sweeper before coming to Korea. Hart's fastball reaches the upper 140 km/h range until the latter half of the game. His changeup, cutter, and other pitches are also top-notch in the league. Hart was included in the eight candidates for the monthly MVP (July) announced by the KBO on the 2nd. The other seven candidates who were active in July are KT's Park Young-hyun (8 saves, 0.00 ERA), SSG's Drew Anderson (3 wins, 35 strikeouts), Lotte's Charlie Barnes (3 wins, 35 strikeouts), Samsung's Kang Min-ho (. 408 batting average, 11 home runs, 26 RBIs), KT's Mel Rojas Jr. (. 413 batting average, 4 home runs, 14 RBIs), KIA's Kim Do-young (. 407 batting average, 7 home runs, 21 RBIs), and Hanwha's Ahn Chi-hong (. 437 batting average, 2 home runs, 16 RBIs).
