Cozy Comfy Starter Home
POSTED ON 07/30/09
I just uploaded my latest lot, Cozy Comfy Starter Home. It\'s a cute little home with a pond and some landscaping. See my slideshow for more details. I reuploaded it because the Sims 3 server was down on the original download. Post comments for this lot here: Cozy Comfy Starter Home Comment Page
My Little River Log Cabin is Now Featured!
POSTED ON 07/29/09
I\'m thrilled that my Little River Log Cabin lot is now featured! I\'ve come a long way since my first lot upload to the exchange. The first lot in my studio that I think begins to show more advanced building skills is "A Quaint Country Cottage" that I downloaded on July 25th. The ones before that are just okay. You see, I had an epiphany, and I must say that I have to thank

ruthless_kk . I had not looked at any other simmers lots before. I just built my lots the way that I thought they looked good and then uploaded them. Then I decided to look at some of the top downloaded lots on the exchange and came across ruthless_kk\'s Green Victorian Starter(under $16k) . It\'s not a big house, but I was floored with the detail and beauty of what someone could do if they really put some effort into it. My first reaction was that I was never going to upload a another lot to the exchange again, because I just didn\'t see how I could ever reach that level. Then I looked at several other builders\' lots and was amazed some more. But I finally decided I would try again and the let the beauty of the lots I had seen become my inspiration. So I will never reach the level of someone like ruthless_kk, but I will keep building anyway and hope that my skills improve with time.

My latest lot is the Zen Garden Pagoda efficiency. It\'s all about minimalism. No phones, no tv, no computers. Just sit and
relax and enjoy a peaceful moment in the Zen garden. This getaway has
the essentials and nothing else. Clear your mind. See more detailed pictures in my slideshow. To make a comment, you can post it here: Zen Garden Pagoda Comment Page
The Little River Log Cabin
POSTED ON 07/27/09
I just uploaded my latest lot. A little river runs through it. I decorated it with a western theme and it costs about 28,000. I learned more about roofing on this project and it was fun experimenting to see what I could do. If I had a vacation home, I hope that it would look like this. I especially love the bedroom- it\'s kind of western kitsch.I love log cabins.

Quaint Country Cottage
POSTED ON 07/25/09
I posted my Quaint Country Cottage today and I think that it is my best one so far. It\'s the first one I did since looking at other builders lots, and I like the way it came out. I realize now I should have lightened the cover shot- it was too dark.

Learning to Build Lots
POSTED ON 07/25/09
I enjoy downloading and looking at other simmers work, especially the top Sims builders. I learned a lot looking at their work, and the first thing I learned was that I am just a beginner. Here are some other things I learned:

Don\'t just plop down a square building with automatic roofing and fill it with furniture. To get an interesting lot, you need to use imagination.

Create a lot of detail.

Take time to do a good job on the landscaping.

Design interesting nooks and crannies in your home, and try using 45 degree angles.

Loading up your home with a lot of stuff doesn\'t necessarily make it better.

Create the screenshots in live mode so you don\'t get those ugly white grid marks or in build mode, go into the terrain paint tools and take your screenshots- the white grid turns off in that mode.

Playtest it. I have had to change something on almost every lot that I built.

And I\'m still learning. And having fun doing it.

So I have a lot of ideas for lots and can\'t wait to build them.
