Looking back at the Sims series.
POSTED ON 06/08/10
Hey,

I was just on SimPrograms and I saw about the new console version, which I must say looks impressive, I might just be getting it for the xbox 360, because the graphics are amazing on the xbox!! I love the Wii but the xbox is better with games like this!! But then again the multi-player aspect with the wii sounds fun, read it here .

On that Sim Programs site, there\'s a trip down memory lane, read it here - about The Sims. So I just had to jot down my thoughts on the sims franchise. I didn\'t get it in 1999 when it was released, I started playing in 2000. I remember playing the Newbie family and then going off and making my own, I had them have a baby, I can\'t believe how backward the baby system was then, with the cradle that magically appeared and how the baby would grow into a child but be stuck being a child forever. Well until Makin\' Magic came along, but even then - sometimes they\'d change skin colour, not to mention gender when they grew up.

I loved the Magic though, I used a clever method, of figuring out which spell beat which spell and wrote it down in my Sims notebook so that I could always have my sim beat another in a duel. How the bright white and blue flashes went across with each spell was brilliant, I do miss that! I found my Sims 2 notebook the other day which I used to write about certain Sims, what I wanted them to do - who to marry etc, plus which ones I wanted to link in the program that could edit sims - Sim PE - I used to add long lost family members using that programme - I reckon there should be a way to do the same thing in Sims 3.

It\'s amazing how far the game has come, when I last tried to play Sims 1 - I found it sooo strange, I couldn\'t believe I used to spend many hours in my bedroom playing it - not to mention the screaming at my brother when he once deleted my game data when we had an argument - never mess with my sims game lol!! I turn nasty! Sims 2 now seems so backward, I tried to play it, and I was looking for the CASt button, and wanted to have them get outside without a loading screen, it just bugged me! You really can\'t go back once you\'re on another series of Sims lol!

My family joke that i\'ll be in my retirement home and I\'ll still be playing it and will get everyone else interested in it, because most people once they watch me play - they want to play themselves lol! By then it will probably be Sims 10 at least lol! I\'m at the adult stage now and I\'m still playing it, so it looks like I\'m addicted for life - yay!! :-D About 10 years I\'ve been playing - that\'s practically half my lifetime - very impressive lol! I\'m very thankful to my friend Sarah for introducing me to it lol! The ironic thing is she doesn\'t play it anymore and hasn\'t for a while, but she was the one that got me hooked on it, she\'d tell me about it and she even found information about it - I forget where from and once I saw about Sims 1 - that\'s it I was hooked lol - I just had to go out and get it - and after pesting my parents (never under-estimate pester power lol) - I got it!

I\'ve pretty much grown up with The Sims 3 - it\'s made me look at people more closely, I still look at people around town and wonder what there life is like because of Sims 3 and sometimes that gives me inspiration of people to create. I can\'t play my simself anymore in Sims 3 though, like I used to in Sims 1 and 2, because Sims 3 is too realistic, and I don\'t want to work out a life for pixel me, but actually Simself me is currently dead in the one save I was playing before Ambitions and I haven\'t added her to the new Twinbrook neighbourhood yet. The Sims series has even helped with my school work, I remember back in Year 7 or 8 of middle school in my French class, taking a picture of a Sims 2 house and labelling the rooms and objects in French for the display wall. Then when I took GCSE Art, I took screenshots of my sim Vicki Gough again from Sims 2 - and drew her for my sketch book. Even at University I still used the Sims in my work, I analysed a Sims 3 marketing campaign for my Marketing Communications module and got 78 for it!!! I had sooo much fun analysing how integrated EA\'s marketing communications were that it really did not feel like work. In fact that piece of coursework I mentioned yesterday at my Job Interview to show that I knew about how brands communicate. It just shows computer games can help in your life lol!

Right well I\'m going to load Ambitions now, I want to see if my sim\'s going to get to put out a bigger fire when he goes to work.

Happy simming!

New lot and thoughts on Ambitions

Hey,

I\'ve put a community lot up for download, if like me you like your sim\'s kids to have a proper party but find their homes a little too cluttered for a great one, and how many times can you have a party in the kitchen before it becomes a little too old? Not many is the answer lol! So I made the community Hall for that purpose, I actually made it with my friend T-*********-r-s49 (how is that swearing :S - check my favourites for his name lol - as this will not let me write it lol!) in mind because I made it to take pictures for his in game birthday party I threw for him, and then when I put some pictures up on facebook of it, a friend of mine wanted to download it, so I\'ve put it up for download for her and for anyone else who wants to throw a party in a different venue.

So here\'s some pics, because the picture the game\'s used does not show it to it\'s full extent:

The outside:

Here\'s my sim Jenny getting married in the Wedding room, don\'t mind Cho the tattoo artist, she\'s just feeling a little nauseaus lol! Some of the chairs had to be removed since taking pictures for this party, because otherwise they can\'t sit down, but now they will sit down:

The windows help add light in, btw the Doctor does not come as standard with every Wedding party lol! Poor Jenny just wanted to get married not have to diagnose her tattoo artist lol!

The dance floor, plenty of room for all dance moves:

Finally, the garden/social area at the back:

I\'ve just had a bunch of badges added to my page, saying I have 100, 1000 and 1500 recommendations :S Not sure what that\'s about lol, I have 73 according to my page - so I think it\'s a bug lol, but I can see that I already have a recommendation on my Community Hall - so thanks!! And thanks for all the other recommendations - it really does mean a lot to me!

As the lot pictures have taken up a lot of this blog, my thoughts on Ambitions will have to be brief - I love it - I had my sim tackle a fire and I felt nervous on his behalf but he put it out fine, but it was cool how the alarm went off and he had to drop everything. One small disappointment when my sim was at work, no-one else was on lot, yet after the fire I saw another firefighter so they need to have them hang out at the station like your sim is meant to, either that or I\'m going to have to make more firefighters lol! I\'ve only seen two careers so far, even though medical\'s not really a career, as you cannot see inside the hospital, which I would have liked to have done, so then it could be just like Grey\'s Anatomy - diagnosing and cutting open patients and saving their lives, but still least now Sims can feel ill. All this time they\'ve been like robots.

Oo plus the washing facility - I love that they can wash their clothes - it\'s about time - and if you don\'t put the hampers in the right place, prepare for piles of clothes everywhere. Then if washing clothes isn\'t enough, they\'ve even added recycling - yes now your sims can be green too - how cool!!

I cannot wait to try out the other careers - I\'m sure they\'re going to be just as amazing!!

Happy simming!!
