I was watching
POSTED ON 06/28/12
Older sims materiel from when they were first coming out and promoting Sims 3, as I wanted to find the 60 sec thing of the neighbors talking while an old man mowed his lawn bit, couldn't find it. So anyways the piece I watched was showing the animation process for the game. I got to wonder why they don't use motion capture, the kind with ping pong ball suits (point of reference or perspective something...) It would make animation more seamless and natural looking, wouldn't it? Just curious.

I hate the idea of bringing total realism to the Sims, I see a lot of people request it though. I question this? Have you ever watched the news, why would you want to bring the horror and devastation of Humanity into a game that is supposed to be fun? I don't want things like large scale natural disasters, War, Murder, or teen issues from pregnancy to suicide and addition, or murder in my game.

It's bad enough people deliberately kill their Sims on a regular basis but want to make so Sims can kill each other? What is wrong with this group of fans? I love the goofier aspect of the Sims games when compared to this, It is my escape from the dull and sad truth of everyday life. I stopped watching the News and reading news papers Thanks to all the horrible, deplorable things reported in them.

Then I wonder about the psychology behind such behavior, what drives certain fans to grasp for such realism in their games? Or the ones who don't want games like Makin' Magic or Showtime in their games, because it ruins the illusion of realism and isn't a Social Simulation game anymore. I wasn't aware that it was intended to be a Serious Social Simulator? I thought it was based off a doll-house premise originally, I know most doll house games IRL involve more then dolls depending on the child, GI Joes, My Little Ponies and Littlest Pet Shop creatures get thrown in there too with the dolls.

And prey tell me, what is realistic about Unicorns, Magical Gnomes, and Ghosts? Ok, ghost may or may not exist and a large majority of people have had some kind of paranormal experience in their lifetime, but that is my point. It have semi-realistic elements but not so overly so it ruins the game. Players don't realize if they are given such a realistic game, they still wouldn't be happy with it, and it would damage the franchise, not to mention the Teen Rating.

If they want games like that, go play LA Noire, or GTA. Leave the Sims alone. While I do miss certain, SMALL, realistic touches like Car door and backing out animations (Yes it is a pet peeve and yes I'm ranting about it!), Changing Tables with the proper animations or being about to bathe toddlers and infants, little things. I want no part of everything else. I really don't want Floods and tornadoes, and Earthquakes on a large scale in my game. Nor any other Real Life aspect that negative, Life is hard enough, don't mess with fun too.

On the topic of Realism...

This started as a discussion of releases dates but it got me thinking about all the players who complain about wanting realism intact in their games.

" Eh, that's life. Just be thankful you have an entire summer off to play Sims. Some people have jobs and don't just get to take a break all summer, let alone when a new EP is released. Some of us are raising kids and we don't get to play whenever we want, either. Since my son was born I have never played Sims for longer than maybe two hours at a time, and I used to play all day.

When I was in school I still had plenty of time to do other things besides schoolwork. And there's always weekends. Unless, of course, you're in school AND also working, but again.. that's life.. entertaining things like video games always have to come second to our responsibilities." One person on the thread.

"THANK YOU ..
..so what if school starts.. not everyone here in school... i work , and i just dont get a break to have summer off to do whatever i want." Another person who qouted the person above.

"Also a good point, the people who work, have children, and pets on top of all that have even less time and still work in playtime, even if it involves a bit of sleep deprivation. Not to mention, house work, laundry, grocery and supply shopping. all that has to be juggled with fun..." Me

Which leads me to another pet peave, people complaining they don't want SN because it'll ruin the realism of their game, ok where is the grocery shopping, you don't open your frisge IRL and it gives you the food you want while deducting money from your household balance.  Or having magical lawn gnomes in your yard? or Unicorns running around in the wild, I still haven't personally seen one, but I'm told they are really there.

So where is the "If you have no food, you have to go to the Grocery store and buy it" Or "Going out to eat"? Where is laundry taking over the house, and vacuuming carpets that get dirty, especially if you have kids and pets and husbands? What about hard surface floors needing mopped, this stuff happens irl. Or illness, humans are forever sick, colds, flu, viruses, allergies and sinus infection, not to mention viral & bacterial infections also. Or broken bones, minor car accidents, cars breaking down, or needing gas for that matter?

Baby bottles and diapers don't magically appear out of thin air, irl, they have to be bought and used/prepared, and they don't magically disappear either. The average person spends a majority of time cleaning in some form or another, Dusting, Mopping, Vacuuming, Dishes, Laundry, Cleaning Kitchen and Bathroom, Cobwebs, outdoor furniture gets dirty too.

For those harping about realism, there's a lot of realism that still hasn't made it into the game, on just small things, so it is a whimsical toy and should simply be left as such. The fantasy of it is done in a semi-believable way so it isn't completely jarring to encounter, be grateful for that at least. There are no 6 ft tall talking tuxedo cats in red and white striped top hats running around the neighborhood. The Fantasy Element could be a lot worse and more akin to Dr. Seuss.

So be happy with what you have and hush. You make it too true to life and it won't be fun anymore. See?

Happy Simming
Why didn't they do that?

I have a couple of things I'm curious about that hasn't or wasn't done in the Sims 3 as of yet.

Why weren't walkers, Activity Centers, Baby swings, new styles of cribs and high chairs, play yards, bassinets and various infant/toddler toys added to Generations?

Why are hats a separate category in Hairstyles and not an accessory in CAS? For instance, there are a TON of hats and hair accessories I'd love to use, but I hate the hairstyle they're attached to. Why isn't it a separate thing?

Of Course I was expecting more from CAS in the Sims 3 anyways, like like after designing your Sim, you have an underwear clad model you dress in each outfit selection. Everyday: choose Underclothing style, socks, pants/skirt, top/blouse, Vest/jacket, belt, tie/kerchief/scarf, shoes.

Same detail for the rest of the Outfits, and have it so there is a set outfit for each day of the week in each category and they automatically change clothing at the start of each day, in-game. So it is more realistic and autonomous.

Then accessories like gloves, jewelry, hair fobs, and Hats can be added to each look as well. Outerwear has a separate category that is set for each season, outerwear for Spring, Fall, and Winter, which includes coats, hats, scarves, gloves and footwear.

Why were car door and Car related animations left out of Sims 3 when they had them in the Lower tech Sims 2? Was this a minor oversight? It is something small that chaffs a lot of Fans, it and the ton of other minor oversights.

I'm curious, Why didn't they do that?
