The future of HTML5 games: will they compete with mobile apps?

I recently decided to try a variety of browser-based games, and my choice fell on a platform that allowed me to play without downloading and installing. I was easily able to find interesting games that were available directly through the browser and I enjoyed the process. With the play now platform, I was able to enjoy the gaming experience without wasting time installing apps. Games like these are becoming a great way to pass the time, and I'm increasingly wondering if they could compete with apps on mobile devices in the future, especially if the quality of content and interaction improves.
