The white shepherd or Berger Blanc is the name given to GSDs with white coats. These dogs are technically german shepherds, however, they are not considered part of the breed due to their unusual coat defeating the purpose of herding since these dogs would belnd in with sheep. The white shepherd has become a popular breed in the US and is now potentially going to be seperately recognized by the AKC with it's own unique standard created.
