Back in the 1960s, a hippy named Sidney set out to create an island that was to be divided into four equal parts by a series of rivers. But before he left the mainland, another hippy friend of his gave him something to make being alone easier. Well, it did but it clouded his ability to measure and as a result, he didn't end up with four equal areas. The island which was to be named 'Piece River Island' due to the four pieces. But before he talked to the land manager, he took some more of whatever that stuff was his friend gave him and he misspelled it "Peace River Island". By the time he realized it, it was tool late so the misspelling stuck.
