Hopeville

Hopeville was named after its founder, Douglas Hope in 1852. Douglas Hope, a former slave of the south, escaped slavery and discovered a remote island off the Atlantic Ocean. After several years of sailing at sea, Douglas, his wife and several other runaway slaves settled in Hopeville Island and started what is now a developing and prosperous town.
