And Another Suburban Dream...
POSTED ON 06/13/09
Just a quick update to tell you about my great new upload - Iok\'s Inspiration #8.  It\'s an airy, somewhat modern family home with four bedrooms, a formal dining room, family room, kitchen (which is awesome!) and even has its own gym!

Outside a large pool and shaded porch provide a wonderful opportunity to spend some time outdoors and the garage and drive provide ample parking spaces.

I hope you enjoy this home as much as I enjoyed building it.  And if you do, give me a Recommendation!  I\'d appreciate it!
The Stahl House - Simified!
POSTED ON 06/10/09
I\'ve always had a fascination with The Stahl House (AKA Case Study #22) a modernist piece by Pierre Koenig.  Built in the hills overlooking LA, it\'s an incredible place, designed with huge open spaces and glass partitions designed to immerse the resident in the environment.

After many hours of work I was finally able to complete what I believe to be a pretty reasonable representation of the real house.  Yes, it\'s not 100% accurate - The Sims 3, for all its power, still has some limitations, plus I tried to make the house \"work\" as a Sims 3 home, rather than the showpiece the real place has become.

But anyway, minor grumbles aside, here it is.

Enjoy!
Thanks!

Iok's Inspirations - A Few New Homes
POSTED ON 06/05/09
Okay, so I\'ve uploaded three new homes which I hope you\'ll enjoy playing.  Each is based around a loose theme of space and using the open-ness of The Sims 3 to full effect.  That means lots of big windows and uncluttered views!

I hope you enjoy each and - if you do - please feel free to give me any feedback or to give them a thumbs-up Recommendation on the Exchange!

Thanks a bunch!
The Sims 3 - First Impressions
POSTED ON 06/05/09
Overall, me likey!

- The CAS-system is awesome (although c\'mon guys, when can we start importing our OWN textures?) and it\'s great being able to colour-match furniture and fittings.

- The accessories/shoes thing is great and creating a Sim is again fantastic thanks to the CAS tool (although again guys, we need to edit the clothing alphas, as removing that is like saying we can\'t use blue or yellow!)

- The game is FAST!  I can live with the more \"flat shaded\" look of the game for the performance increase.

- Yes, the visuals are different to The Sims 2.  I think it\'s an improvement overall but I do think the Sims themselves look a little strange when static.  In motion they\'re fine, but it\'s harder to make lifelike Sims.

- Building options.  No half-walls or platforms. :(  THAT is a big deal for me, because as a builder I used both a lot.  I\'ll have to live without them for now.

- The music isn\'t as good as it was in The Sims 2.  I just find it all sounds too much like a 1960s Public Safety movie!

- The styles and decor are MUCH nicer, a lot more modern and the clothing is more realistic - a good halfway between the previously Mumsy chunky knits of The Sims 2 and the teen raver fashions of Night Life.

- The neighbourhood.  WOW!  It\'s amazing being able to wander around the streets and visit other locations.  You truly get a sense of a full world out there.  I was initially concerned about playing with a pre-built world (I usually build from scratch) but the existing city is superb and a lot of fun - I can\'t wait to explore further!

- No SecuROM!  Thank you for seeing sense EA and not punishing your dedicated, honest customers.

- Gameplay is stable and installation was easy.  I\'d read about people experiencing problems from the start but so far - touch wood - no problems here!

Overall, a very solid start.  It\'s certainly a big leap forward for the series and I\'m looking forward to sharing some new creations which I hope you\'ll all enjoy!
