According to a news article over on Gamasutra, Electronic Arts\' latest and greatest has sold more than 800,000 units in the US alone for the month of June. By comparison, the Sims 2 had around 700,000 first month sales in the domestic market back in 2004. What does this really mean? The future is bright indeed for the Sims franchise!

Evolving the Sims 3

There is a very good article written by veteran game professional Steve Breslin over at Gamasutra. Here he talks about the history and theory of Sandbox Gameplay, a common game industry term you may have heard before. As we all know, the Sims series and the Sims 3 in particular incorporates this concept into the overall game design. Whether you are a player, a builder, a modder or a developer, this article is a highly recommended read and can be found at this link:

\r\nAfter having read it myself, I pose to you these questions:
- As a sandbox game, what has the Sims 3 done well?
- Of the parts that work well for sandbox gameplay, why are they successful?
- How can the sandbox experience in the Sims 3 be made better?

Antique Chronometer

For those who have the Storybook objects collection from the Sims 3 Store, have you noticed that the Antique Chronometer cannot be placed on a fireplace mantle at all? That object should be able to do so, because the time pieces from the base game will go on a fireplace mantle. Clearly this is an oversight on EA\'s part, one that they ought to rectify. If not, then it shall fall upon some enterprising modders to do so.
