LG escapes 3-game losing streak, Yeom Gal-gal cites top contributor

 The LG Twins snapped a three-game losing streak and moved into sole possession of fifth place in the Korean Baseball Organization.

LG, led by manager Yoon Kyung-yup, won 8-4 against the Hanwha Eagles of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on Wednesday.

Catcher Park ****-won, who returned from a knee injury, batted in the No. 5 spot and went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, one RBI and one walk. Hong Chang-ki also went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, while Austin Dean went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, an RBI and two walks.

Despite giving up three runs in the sixth inning on a wild pitch, starter Chan-kyu Lim improved to 2-2 on the season with four hits (one home run), two walks, three strikeouts and four runs in 5 1/3 innings. Entering with runners on first and third in the sixth inning, Kim pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief with one hit, one walk and one strikeout in the seventh to earn his 10th win of the season.

With the win, 안전놀이터 LG snapped a four-game losing streak for the first time this season and moved from a tie for fifth place to sole possession of fifth place with a 26-23-2 record (.531 winning percentage), overtaking SSG, which lost to Doosan in Jamsil earlier in the day.

After the game, LG head coach Yoon Kyung-yeop praised Jin-sung in particular, saying, "Im Chan-kyu did a good job as a starter, and (Kim) was able to keep the flow going in a difficult situation."

The previous day (Feb. 22), Jin-sung threw 1⅔ innings of one-hit, no-strikeout, perfect ball against Hanwha, throwing 17 pitches, and on this day, he threw 23 pitches in 1 1/3 innings. The bullpen showed the strength of the pitching staff in a difficult situation, and manager Yoon Kyung-yup was full of praise.

"In the batting lineup, (Hong) Chang-ki, (Park) ****-won, and (Oh) Ji-hwan were able to get hits when we needed them to win the game. It could have been a difficult game today, but the players were focused and we were able to win," he said, adding, "We are grateful to the fans who traveled to the game on a weekday to support us."

LG will begin a three-game home series against NC at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on the 24th. Right-hander Choi Won-tae will start the first game. NC will start right-hander Lee Jun-ho.
