Simulating Anju
First Session
POSTED ON 06/03/09
After a grueling wait for my new PC and TS3, I was more than excited to install the game on to my brand spanking new desktop.  I had high expectations and high hopes for the game, but after viewing the forums on the first day, I decided to start my first session with an open mind.  Instead of thinking of TS3 as a super improved TS2, I tried to see it as a completely different game.

First Session: Approx. 6 hours played

So I started the game the way it was intended.  I spent an hour or so creating a perfect me.  I have enough flaws in real life, let my sim be as flawless as she can be!  With the artistic, charismatic, great kisser, natural cook, and lucky traits equipped, I moved her into a starter house on 72 Water Lily Lane. Since she has the lifetime wish of mastering guitar and the charisma skill, I set her to work in the music industry, hoping she will one day become a famous rock star.

I purchased a few necessities from what was leftover with my simoleans, threw a couple of parties, and advanced her career to the \"Band Manager\" level.  Along the way, she had an affair with someone at work named Stiles, who was already married.  It was a first love that only turned out to be a one-night stand.

After skilling her guitar up to 5, I let her \"play for tips\" at the park for extra cash.  Not only did it help raise her guitar skill, it helped her develop tons of new relationships.

First Impressions

I don\'t have to read through the entire Prima Game Guide to realize how massive this game is.  Massive, yet in a completely different way from TS2.  After playing for 6 hours, I feel like I\'ve barely scratched the surface of this game.  It is exciting and daunting at the same time.  I don\'t recall feeling this way when I transitioned from TS1 to TS2.  I am totally up for the challenge though, but I don\'t think I would recommend this game to someone completely new to gaming, as I don\'t think it is as intuitive as the first 2 Sims games.

Likes
CAS: After seeing some initial screenshots and videos of the game, I wasn\'t quite enthused about the way the Sims looked. I thought they looked a little too real and none of them looked good to me.  After spending some time in CAS though, I was very impressed with the tools and my fears subsided when I was able to make sims that looked great and sound great (love being able to adjust voice pitch!).  I don\'t think I can and will ever complain about a game having too much customization. It\'s great and I love it!

Moodlets: Love it. It adds a layer of sim realism and helps loads with making you feel connected to your sim.

Promises/Lifetime Rewards: This is done very well also. It sets a clear path for you to follow for your sim.

Opportunities: This really helps break up any tedium in routines from the sim day.

Dislikes
No Custom Neighborhoods: What I loved about TS2 was just being able to create different neighborhoods with different themes. Since I loved building, most of my TS2 playtime was just going into one of my neighborhoods, picking a lot, and build out a house.  I didn\'t have to involve any sims at all and I would spend an entire night just building.  Most of my houses usually went unoccupied since I built so many.  From my understanding, developers are planning to add in a \"Create a Neighborhood\" at some point, so I am hoping this is only a temporary dislike.

Time: During my 6 hours of playing, I feel like 3 of those hours were spent just watching my sim sleep or skill on a guitar.  The ultra speed doesn\'t seem to be working as fast as it should because it seems to be slower than the 3x speed.  Hopefully, this is something they can fix soon.  This isn\'t a huge deal for now as I just flip through the Game Guide while she sleeps, but I can see how that can get old really quick.

So far, the pros definitely outweighs the cons. I am looking forward to another long play session.  In my next session, I hope to create a suitable mate for my sim and actually build a house from scratch.  I am going to try to avoid using any money cheats for now until I have completely played the game as it was intended.
