I've been playing the sims for a while now. It's a hobby, not a lifestyle for me. I enjoy making custom clothing, and helping people new to the game find their way around.
You can send me a private message (EAs hidden replacement for the guest book) here. You'll have to copy and paste because I can't link on my main page. My siggy in the forum has a link, as does my blog.

How to Install Custom Content in the Sims 3 Part 1
ELKÜLDVE:
2009.08.27 15:53
So I was a CC junky in the sims 2, and yesterday I finally decided to
enter the CC world in the Sims 3. I went to the most popular CC sites
and was attempting to figure out how to download. It seems the files
need to go in a new place from the sims 2. It took me reading the
instructions from 3 sites before I figured out exactly what to do. So
for all of you who are confused, here are some step by step
instructions that I hope are clearer then most CC sites.
Quick Steps for the experts.
Go to your root directory which for most people is in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 and install the Resource.cfg file there. (File can be located at http://chii.modthesims.info/getfile.php?file=927170 or http://www.peggyzone.com/Sims3Download.html
in any of The Sims 3 downloads such as hair, clothing etc)
Then create a Folder in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 named Mods, then in the Mods folder create a Packages folder. This location is where ALL DOWNLOADED Files that ARE NOT .package files will go. It's file path looks like this C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages.
For files in the Sims3packs format(Store items, Exchange Items, Items from Parsimonious.com) Download them, double click the file, and they will go into their appropriate folder which is Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads.
In depth step by step holding your hand instructions for everyone else.
Background information
First you will need to know that Sims 3 downloads come in several different file types. These types are .package which comes in either a .rar .zip format and .sims3pack. The file type .sims3pack is the format The Official Sims 3 downloads are in This format allows you to download it, and double click the file, and it will install using the Sims 3 launcer (like items from the exchange or store) The website http://www.parsimonious.org/ uses this file type. File types .rar and .zip require you to download them and then extract them (they are compressed small and extracting them makes them bigger, think unpacking a tightly packed suitcase).zip files windows has built in programs for extracting, while .rar files need a special program. I recommend using http://www.7zip.com/ which is free. I will give the remaining instructions using that program, but most other programs work similar to 7zip if you chose to use them,

How to Install Custom Content in the Sims 3 Part 2

Step by Step instructions for installing
Before you can download you will need to do a little set up first. The way the sims 3 is made you will need to find your root directory. For ANYONE WHO INSTALLED THE GAME WHERE IT ASKED TO BE INSTALLED IN WINDOWS THIS WILL BE LOCATED AT C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3. To go to this folder in Windows click on My Computer and then your Hard Disk Drives (Your main drive will probably be C drive) Then Click on Program Files Then click on Electronic Arts (You may see a EA Games folder, this is for the Sims 2, choose the one that says Electronic Arts) Then click on The Sims 3. You will need to do several things in this folder. First Right click on any open white space, and a drop down menu will appear. Hold your mouse over the word New, and a side menu will appear. Click Folder. Name this Folder Mods. Then open the Mods Folder and follow the above instructions and create a folder names Packages. This folder Packages MUST BE LOCATED IN THE MODS FOLDER. Now you will need to install a file named Resource.cfg in your folder C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 MAKES SURE THE FILE DOES NOT GO IN YOUR Mods\Packages folder. It must go in the folder The Sims 3. This folder has lists like caches, gamedata, support, etc. You need to place the resource.cfg file here. Several download sites include this file in all their downloads. If you see it after choosing to download an item like hair, you can extract this file to that folder. If not you can download it here (you must be a Modthesims2 member): http://chii.modthesims.info/getfile.php?file=927170
Or you can download any item from http://www.peggyzone.com/Sims3Download.html and the resource.cfg file comes with these downloads.
So once you have found your file for downloading click this file to download and in windows a screen will pop-up asking what you want to do with the file. Click Open With and make sure it chooses 7Zip. The 7Zip program will then open. If you have downloaded more then one file you can hold down shirt and select top to bottom with your mouse to get all the files, or press ctrl and click on a file and the press ctrl again and select only several files. This can be useful because most downloads come with read-me files and jpg files which you don't need to extract into your file folder. Once you press extract a window will pop-up with a wierd computer path listed. DO NOT hit ok. You need to select your file destination here. FOR THE RESOURCE.CFG file (in 7zip) click the button with 3 little dots on it and a box will pop up with folders listed. Click on Program Files Then click Electronic Arts, Then Click the Sims 3. This is where your Resource.cfg file goes. YOU ONLY NEED TO PUT THE FILE THERE ONCE. IT's DONE FOREVER AFTER THAT. For all other files (the things your downloaded like hair and clothing) Chose Program Files, Electronic Arts, The Sims 3, Mods, Packages. This is where all your downloaded files will go.
You have now successfully downloaded CC for The Sims 3. For those who would like an installer to do all this "work" for them you can check this one out here http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=344611
I hope my step by Step instructions have been useful. Enjoy.
Really EA??!!!

So EA thought, hmmm people want to be able send messages to each other, some awesome guy figured out how, now lets shut it down!
I swear EA sometimes has no head. They are probably gonna bring it back, and ask us to pay a monthly fee to use it. That is so EA.
I'll only be appeased if they make it easy to use, like actual buttons to push instead of hidden links, and it's free. Otherwise I may just have a rage fit at EA for being completely stupid and greedy. Why bother having these "friends" if I can't even talk to them.
