Well, The Sims 3 is finally here. Let's see what we can make with this marvelously genius game. While I certainly miss all the cool stuff of The Sims 2 with all the expansion packs, TS3 is a ground level, next generation Sims game that we are all sure will have many more expansion packs to come to make it just as complete as our Sims 2 became.
TS3 opens up a whole new realm of great gameplay that was not in TS2, though TS2 has all the content and neat add-ons, but not much gameplay. TS3 is hands down much more entertaining, it draws you into your characters more and the gameplay very strong.
The oddest thing about TS3 is the strange mix of sheer genius and sheer stupidity. Cases in point (none of which takes away from gameplay - just suspension of disbelief, which should be mandatory in a game such as TS3):
Thank you for a great game. Your reward is certainly in the number of copies sold in such a short time and all the ooh's and ahh's from your faithful Sim-base and newbies to the franchise.

- BABIES-OUT-OF-THE-BLUE: Oh, no, no, no! Your unplayed sims getting pregnant by immaculate conception is a real NO-NO! Now I understand that the citizenry must be fruitful and replenish the SimTown, but immaculate conceptions??? C'mon - that is so uncool it is beyond insanity!
I created a female sim, put her in a house for play later and when I returned - SHE HAD A BABY! I checked her relationships and the baby has no father. What did she do adopt? She was never pregnant. If she adopted the baby, there should definately be an option to prevent adoptions (or immaculate conceptions) for characters you created to be single and baby-free!
If a player puts the whole town on birth control they must realize that there town will eventually become a ghost town (if aging is on), but that should be a player option, not a random, non-player-controlled event, at least on a per-sim basis. - A Sim is arrested and yet, unlike TS2, they're not handcuffed and the cop goes into the police station before the criminal who is not handcuffed??? Bad effect. Lazy programmers.
- The transportation routine leaves out one of the coolest elements of TS2, the actual opening the door, getting in the vehicle (with a little vehicle bounce) when entering or exiting the vehicle, which is a great shot, used often in movies. GONE, replaced with the sim disappearing and reappearing in the vehicle. Bad effect. Lazy programmers.
- When inviting someone to a restaurant there is no restaurant like in TS2??? They simply go into a building and disappear. A few moments later one comes out the front door and the other comes out the back??? Bad effect. Lazy programmers.
- What is with the feminine hand on hip thing while waiting, for our muscular, macho men characters? Very bad effect. Lazy programmers.
- The lack of locks and privacy within a household is bizarre to say the least and leads to some very unrealistic sleeping arrangements, as well, during a party the guests are EVERYWHERE, including your beds? Very bad effect.
- Locks and privacy are a must, at least while you're playing that lot - who cares what goes on when you're not.
- Parties are way too short. There should be an option to either set the time for the party or just make them at least 8 hours long. It makes it a waste to spend $250 for the buffet when everybody is gone in just a few hours.
Thank you for a great game. Your reward is certainly in the number of copies sold in such a short time and all the ooh's and ahh's from your faithful Sim-base and newbies to the franchise.
