Emily Madison nervously drummed her fingers against her desk. Mr. Peterson was practically murdering her through historic lectures, which was Emily's least favorite way of dying. She glanced up at the clock above Mr. Peterson's head for what seemed like the hundredth time. She looked around the room to see what everyone else was doing. Joey was carving his initials into his desk, Alyssa was filing her nails, and the rest of the kids were either paying attention to Mr. Peterson or goofing off with their friends.

Emily stole a sideway glance at her crush since third grade, Percy Knight. Oh, he had the cutest brown hair and the dreamiest eyes that any girl could easily get lost in....but Percy was dating Alyssa Banks, the prissy and popular girl that always bossed everyone around, including her friends. Emily was once Alyssa's friend, but that was before Alyssa turned into a total wannabe.

Percy was nice, smart, cool, handsome, and not to mention captain of the football team. That was the exact problem. All the girls had crushes on him and all the guys wanted to be his friend because he was completely well-rounded, or as the prissy girls liked to call him--the perfect guy.

Emily sighed. Right then, the bell rang, dismissing the students of Mr. Peterson's class to lunch.

Emily stuffed her schoolbag into her locker and hurried to the cafeteria. She spotted her two best friends, Jennifer and Erin. She waved frantically to them and sat down at their table.

Emily opened up her sack lunch and sighed. Her Mom had packed her a meatloaf sandwich and leftover scraps from last night's Mexican drive thru dinner.

"Ugh," Emily groaned. "I hate what my mom packs me for lunch."

Erin grinned. "You see, I pack a perfect carbohyrdate-free lunch containing the healthful items that the human body needs to consume in order for your system to stay nutritious." Erin was the girly-girl smartypants of the group that was excellent in P.E. and math and always carried around extra lip gloss and an extra snack to boost blood sugar.

"We no speak your language," Jennifer grunted through a moutful of chocolate cake.

Erin rolled her eyes. "I see you looking at Percy Knight, Emily."

"What?" Emily snapped out of her daze. "Huh? What were you saying, Erin?"

Erin smiled. "I know you like Percy Knight."

"Yah?" Emily asked. "So?"

"So I can help you!" Erin said reasonably. She took a slip of paper out of her pocket and folded it into a perfect oragami heart. "Draw something cute on the cover of the heart, and right something nice inside the folds, saying it's from Percy's secret admirer."

Emily shrugged. She knew it wouldn't be that easy, but she also knew it was worth a try. Erin's plans haven't failed since the third grade, which was several grades back. Emily just wished Percy would see through the typical green jacket and jeans, and right into her true self.

Emily finished the heart and casually walked past Percy's locker, and unnoticably slipped the oragami heart through a crack. She hid in the doorway of the girls' bathroom, and watched as Percy opened his locker. He took out the heart and read it over. He smiled, and took out a sheet of paper. He did something Emily couldn't see, but then the bell rang.

Emily grunted, then hurried off to gym class.

At gym class, Emily tossed her jacket onto the bleachers and put on her gym clothes. She walked over to the volleyball net and got into her position. Alyssa Banks, Stacey Jacobs, and Chelsea Parks were on one side, and Emily, Erin, and Jennifer were on the other side.

"You're going down, you little slug," Alyssa snarled.

That got Emily angry. Emily hit the ball over the net, and it hit Alyssa right in the face. Alyssa started crying, and her mascara began to drip down her face. Chelsea and Stacey ran up to her and began to comfort her.

Percy, Joey, and Adrien started laughing at Alyssa, and Percy put something pink in Emily's jacket.

Emily shrugged it off and continued to play. After gym, she grabbed her jacket, and something heart-shaped and pink fell out of her jacket. She picked it up. It was a pink heart made from paper, and in red glitter-glue, the words: Be my valentine, Emily Madison were scrawled across the top, and the words: From Percy Knight were written at the bottom. YES! Erin's plan had worked, and Emily had Percy Knight as her valentine.
